Last year my youngest son watched a survival show where a couple would put themselves in different situations to see what it would take to fill basic needs of shelter, food, and water. They explored several techniques to clean their drinking water including boiling any water they could find if they had a fire source, evaporating salt water, and even pouring bleach into old collected water.
We live in a country where we are blessed to have water at our disposal pretty much whenever we want it and at any amount we want to use. This is not the case for 884 million of our fellow Earthlings! Yes, over 3x the population of US is without a clean water source.
This article initially was going to be a piece on how neutralizing our bodies ph levels and that of our drinking water is important and took a turn as I was doing my research. So foremost, let me suggest that you visit water.org. It is an organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for the have-nots. It was at water.org that I learned that water and women go hand in hand. Did you know that in most countries it is the women’s role to get water? That many women are put at extreme risks because of this? Well, the truth is staggering.
Women and Water
In fact, according to water.org women and girls have many plights because of this issue including:
- Only relieving themselves once per day resulting in health related issues
- Physical injury because of the heavy and prolonged lifting
- Walking for miles and being put at risk for bodily harm including rape
- Not being able to attend school or work
- Paying exploiting prices for water
- Receiving contaminated water that could result in death
So while I have a lot to say about our drinking water, and while it’s important to educate and take the best care of ourselves that we can; I feel that it’s even more important to give back to those that don’t even know water has a ph level.
3000 Sun Salutes for Clean Water
If you would like to join me, I am going to give to this organization. A fellow yogi named Josh Schrei is undertaking a challenging task to raise funds for water.org to help provide clean water for impoverished families in India. In early October Josh is heading to Southern India. There he plans to do over 3000 sun salutations around the 8.5 mile base of the sacred Arunachala mountain. It’s a simple transaction of any amount you are comfortable with. The company is registered with charitynavigator.com and received a high score. Below is their mission statement:
Co-founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, Water.org has transformed hundreds of communities in Africa, South Asia, and Central America by providing access to safe water and sanitation. Water.org traces its roots back to the founding of WaterPartners in 1990. In July 2009, WaterPartners merged with H2O Africa, resulting in the launch of Water.org. Water.org works with local partners to deliver innovative solutions for long-term success. Its microfinance-based WaterCredit Initiative is pioneering sustainable giving in the sector. All of the projects Water.org supports are self-sustaining, with organizational and financial structures in place to allow communities to independently operate and maintain them. Projects have an active water committee governing the operation of the water system, and users paying a water bill to cover the costs of operating and maintaining the water system.

1080 – LIVING YOGA PROJECT 2011/12 – An Eye On The Light
Everything in the world is vibration and what we focus on is what we manifest. Essentially, we are what we think. We are constantly sending out signals into the universe through our vibration and the universe mirrors back those signals as the circumstances we live in. What we see around us, including on TV and in the paper, sets ourselves into a vibration of that manifestation.
This year we want to send a clear message about what we, as the human race, want to focus on. What we are going to set our eye on, so to speak.
We are going to keep An Eye On The Light . Will you join us?
We want your heart to be part of an intention to live together as one in the Light. In doing so, you will be supporting projects and aspiring Yogis.
So… for Project1080 – we ask that you put your hands together in an intention of holding the light within, take a photo of it…(see example below) then bring in your $20 donation.
Omkarra Yoga will be taking photos after yoga classes.
“Be the change you want to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi
All 1080 photos will be assembled onto a 4.5’ x 4.5’ stretched canvas and will be configured into a “work of art” (a mock up example is at the top of the column to the right – note this is not the final image) which will then be auctioned off to the highest bidder in February 2012.
WHAT ARE YOU SUPPORTING?
ALL net proceeds of this project will benefit the building of a Yoga Sadhana space at Tattwa Darshan (Kimberley BC), as well as supporting the organisation of Sw. Satsangananda’s Confrence as part of her North American Tour in 2012 and finally, to offer scholarships to yoga students to participate in the conference.
If you are interested in being considered for a scholarship to be part of Sw. Satsangi’s conference in 2012 please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
